About the role

DP World is looking for a seasoned software development leader to help build its vision of B2B, B2C and B2B2C ecommerce. With its extensive network of logistics and economic zones, DP world seeks to position inventory from sources in the economic zones and use its logistics network to be able to connect buyers and sellers, enabling the delivery of goods to happen much faster and cheaper than if it were coming from the seller. We are also looking to build white-label solutions to provide online presences for well-known shopping malls and brands.

As the head of ecommerce development, you will work in close partnership with the business unit and product heads, along with the CTO and COO. This role manages the development activities for all aspects of eCommerce : website, mobile site, Android and iOS apps, the microservices powering the experience, the order management and planning systems, the operational systems, catalogue, seller portal, customer care systems, and returns.

You will be instrumental in helping refine the strategy, and launch MVPs to quickly go to market, look at data, and iterate to grow the business. You will hire and lead a team of talented leads and developers, and mentor and grow their careers. You will have a strong sense of architecture yet be in the details. You will guide the build out such that common modules are shared across multiple sub businesses (B2B, B2C, white-label etc). You will focus on delivering fast without incurring technical debt. You will ensure a 24x7 smooth running website and inculcate technical and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate will have successfully led an engineering team focused on building large scale distributed systems, with solid understanding of microservices-based architecture and cloud infrastructure management like AWS, Azure

 

  • Hire a team of developers and leads, help launch B2C, B2B, B2B2C & white label ecommerce products
  • Work with product management and business heads to rapidly iterate on features and grow the business.
  • Provide a very ‘Hands-on’ technical leadership and mentoring for engineers in the team.
  • Lead the technical design, vision and implementation strategy for major services & components of eCommerce. Ensure sound and scalable architecture as the build out happens.
  • Ability to articulate the design and code choices to cross functional teams and drive architectural decisions.
  • Create an environment to foster professional and personal growth of each individual engineer in the team.
  • Lead the team to provide production-ready system components and operation support; and systematically mature components, owning them end to end.
  • Ensure timely response and resolutions to relevant site operations and support escalations
  • Create development roadmap plans that have clear, measurable success criteria, and clearly communicate progress and outcomes
  • Drive best practices on the team, deal with ambiguity and competing objectives, and proactively identify and mitigate risks before they become roadblocks
  • Define, measure, and improve Key Performance Indicators for the team

  • Responsible for the management and leadership of an engaged team, promoting collaboration and ensuring that each is developed and evaluated against goals and objectives which are aligned, specific, measurable, attainable yet challenging, realistic and time bound.
  • Act as an ambassador for DP World at all times when working; promoting and demonstrating positive behaviors in harmony with DP World’s Founder’s Principles, values and culture; ensuring the highest level of safety is applied in all activities; understanding and following DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor in Technology, Engineering, or equivalent (BE/BTech/BS)
  • 15 or more years of professional software development, implementation and operations experience. Of which 5 years of clear demonstration of progressive experience in management.
  • Strong technical aptitude to lead an engineering team
  • Ability to meet challenges under demanding conditions and keep calm under pressure.
  • Organized and able to work with many people to deliver product features on tight schedule
  • Proven ability to influence across matrix organizations at various levels.
  • Strong experience in managing multiple projects/programs.
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, with ability to work successfully across all engineering disciplines
  • Resourceful - able to deliver results with minimal direction.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with developers, business owners, and senior business leaders
  • Solid understanding of developer tools and cloud technologies
  • Experience working on frameworks or platforms consumed by a large developer audience
  • Well versed in emerging industry technologies and trends, and the ability to communicate that knowledge to the team and use it to influence product direction.
  • Roll-up sleeves attitude, remove obstacles that prevent teams from achieving their goals.
