About the role

For our operations in P&O Maritime UAE, reporting to the Pilot Boat Skipper we are looking to hire an Integrated General Purpose Rating  to crew pilot boats and/or line tugs  as required for port based marine operations.

Key Accountabilities


  • To act as general purpose crewman on any vessel by providing assistance as required and outlined in this job description which covers both deck and engine based activities.
  • To maintain the technical operational ability of the assigned vessel through best engineering practices.
  • To monitor, record and report any deviation or failure of all vessels main and auxiliary systems.
  • To receive instructions from the Skipper, guide and supervise subordinates as required.
  • To take the initiative and perform the instructed duties to the highest standards achievable personal and professional standards.
  • Upon receiving instructions from the pilot boat skipper, to assign tasks appropriately and increase efficiency and ensure safety.
  • To formulate work plans for each voyage, report to pilot boat skipper and request instructions cooperation and guidance where necessary to ensure 100% operational ability.
  • To act as directed by the pilot boat skipper in any on-board or ashore emergency situation.
  • Performs mooring duties on board or on shore as and when requested by the vessel skipper.
  • To lead all bunkering operations in conjunction with the jetty pumpman.


  • To lead the engine room maintenance on the small craft whilst in operation.
  • Assists in full and complete maintenance of the boat i.e. scaling, painting, greasing, etc. as instructed by the shore crew.
  • To gain an understanding of Engine Room equipment, controls and alarms and ensure all equipment is kept in optimum condition at all times.
  • To record all the work done on a daily basis.
  • To always monitor the engine room and other locations for which you are responsible in good operational condition.
  • To accept and receive vessels consumable and technical stores and simultaneously use these items efficiently where applicable.
  • To efficiently maintain and handle the operation of the firefighting equipment as available on board.
  • To assist where required as part of the port’s emergency and anti-pollution team (ERT) providing support to safety procedures and policies.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Engine Room Rating Watch Keeping Certificate 
  • Minimum 2 years proven experience 
  • Qualification in line with STCW Manila amendments 
  • BST Certificate
  • Good knowledge and understanding of English language, both written and spoken.
