About the Role
  • To use operational expertise of in-depth container terminal operations and maritime industry and add value to DPW’s BU’s globally, while focusing on closely monitoring performance of top 16 “in Focus” terminals. Actively assist the department with communications and follow up to the regions and BU’s to manage away abnormalities.
  • Develop and implement Company’s operational strategic direction. Develop and share company’s policies, standards and best practices. Ensure implementation of processes and procedures that are cost efficient and with due regard for safety, quality, profitability and efficiency, over the entire portfolio of terminals.
  • Conduct modelling and conceptual design for business development and terminal expansions under supervision of line manager to determine terminal annual capacity, manning levels.
  • To provide on-going assistance and support as part of the Global Operations team and use in depth knowledge of data analysis and operational efficiency, optimisation, business development projects, P&T roadshow, due diligence & terminal start up processes, to assist BU’s.
  • Act as catalyst and advisor for sharing and transfer of knowledge between Business Units, user groups across the portfolio. Support the validation of capital expenditure regarding implementation of operational systems and technologies across the portfolio.


Key Accountabilities
  • Assist and take initiative to reverse underperforming Business Units in relation to operational activities, processes, cost etc. Provide operational input to the design of new port facilities and port expansion projects including the use of simulation software and various business models. Participate and provide operational input in Due Diligence evaluations primarily to the acquisition of new businesses.
  • Use knowledge of container terminal operations of all aspects, Operations, Equipment, Commercial, Safety and Finance to further add value to all and future DPW terminals. Conduct Operations Dynamics as well as minimal standards assessments. Manage the internal assessment function including the preparation of assessment plans, scheduling and assigning work and estimating resource needs, analysis of data gathered prior and during the assessment visit on site, assessment reports writing, reviews and updates of the agreed action plan. Make recommendations on the systems and processes being assessed, report on the findings and recommend and monitor management’s response and implementation.
  • Using knowledge of container operations Key Performance Indicators “KPIs”, analyse performance, identify trends, correlations and identify areas of improvement and create results by closely working with the regional team and business units. Further improve and/or rewrite KPI and standardise them for all our DPW portfolio to follow, in line with the Head Office’s vision to assess terminal performance.
  • Take the responsibility of four “In Focus” BU’s in our portfolio in optimising operational aspects, under the guidance of line manager where necessary. Travel to the four core BU’s assigned for constant follow up and assessments to ensure they continue to be DP World’s world class standard.
  • Conceptual terminal design BD - to provide and assist project management and business development operational knowledge of terminal design with regards to spacing, manning and equipment needs and layout. Create detailed documents (Employers requirements) to guide the construction team and onsite team to DPW’s terminal standard when awarded a greenfield site, as well as provide best practice guidelines to existing sites.
  • Assess BU’s justifications for terminal expansion, headcount or equipment needs, based on performance & efficiency related criteria. Get involved in the Due Diligence deliberations with corporate finance department. Constantly monitor Business Units’ performance KPIs including cost and operational KPIs and perform operational reviews of capital acquisitions for new projects and existing Business Units.
  • Maintain and record operational data of all our terminals (Annual terminal capacity analysis) to identify terminal constraints, as well as maintain accurate historical information. (Communication with Regional Heads and CEO’s)
  • Fluency in operational data and KPI for high level summaries & presentations on all DPW’s portals, systems and applications (TPA & TOS). To prepare frequent researches and reports relevant to the core business, assist in maintaining the operations e-newsletters.
  • Work closely with DPW Hub to create operational learning modules to assist business units remotely and provide the tools the business unit needs.

Qualifications and Experience

In order to give credible support to the organisation and be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Positive and curious attitude, ambitious and self-motivated.
  • 5 years on-site experience in both automated and manual port operations.
  • Excellent business writing and correspondence skills.
  • Communication skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Advanced data analysis skills.
  • Advanced user to MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Fluent BI user.
  • On-site and regional experience.
  • Knowledge of planning, execution and project management.
  • Excellent presentation and persuasive skills.
  • Capable of writing well-structured reports, policies and procedures.
