DP World Germersheim is a tri-modal container port located on the river Rhine and is the largest of our Inland terminals.

If you are ready and willing to take a hands on role as an Engineer this is the job for you.

You will undertake small projects to upgrade andmaintain our Inland Terminal equipment. To diagnose, rectify and repair faults on electrical/electronic based control and drive systems on Port equipment. To be mechanically aware and have proven experienced to diagnose and to repair mechanical equipment on cranes and other plant around the terminal. Provide electrical and mechanical preventative maintenance to frontline equipment to optimise performance and reliability.  

Person

You will have the experience to ensure all reactive, modification and project work is carried out effectively and safely. To ensure that electrical and electronic control and drive systems are cost effectively repaired and maintained in a safe manner with the minimum operational disruption.

You will provide the best available response time to requests for reactive work to Port equipment as well as concise engineering planning and execution records

You should have a good business acumen to be aware of long-term strategies within the terminal and Inland group and follow these where appropriate. To ensure prioritisation of work to meet business needs of the Port.

Where instructed, provide maintenance support our other Inland terminals in Stuttgart and Mannheim. 

You must have excellent supervisory skills to manage the day-to-day frontline and general duty of care of any Inland terminal staff allocated from time to time to maintenance activities.  When undertaking routine repair works responsible for own safety and safety of plant operators in consequence of the work undertaken.

You should be financially aware to be able to check all costs relating to any repairs and maintenance activities ensuring the works are completed within budgeted limits and to the accepted specification and requirements. You will also ensure that the most cost-effective route is taken in undertaking modification and repairs, with the minimum of parts replaced, and the modification or repair undertaken efficiently.

 

Experience

You are required to conduct yourself in a calm, polite and professional manner at all time and promote an open and transparent approach to communications, developing relationships with colleagues and teams to engage, motivate and provide the necessary information to complete activities.

You must have expert knowledge and experience of container handling equipment control and drive systems essential (minimum 2 years’ experience).

Working knowledge of PLC programming language and control logic.

In depth experience and knowledge of Barge container handling cranes, general and specific control systems.

Thorough knowledge of German and European Standards related to Terminal Handling equipment and electrical/mechanical engineering

Ability to cope with changing work priorities in a pressurised and demanding environment.

Frequent periods of intense concentration on technical problems with repeated interruptions. The ability to analyse and diagnose complex faults from limited available data and history.

Ability to organise project work effectively and complete in the required time frame.

Qualifications

You will have formal qualification in Electrical/electronic or Mechanical Engineering and a driving licence essential.

Frequent climbing, working at height and in confined spaces is required for extended periods of time

As an Engineer you may have exposure to risk of electric shock whilst working on live electrical circuits. Exposure to noise, dust and vessel exhaust fumes also common. Working and access at height also a risk factor.
