Reporting directly to the Terminal General Manager the role is required to effectively manage the total resources of the Paramaribo Business to achieve optimum levels of employee productivity, ROI, zero harm and site based financial results.

To ensure customer expectations are exceeded where practicable, transforming the terminal into a best practice facility.

This position has responsibility for the management of all operational labor and equipment resources, including the delivery of an operations plan and the management of all shift operations at the terminal, to achieve customer requirements and operational commitments.

  • Lead by example in the delivery of safe work practices and ensure the continual identification and management of hazards to reduce accidents and injury, including incident investigation and implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop the short, medium and long term operations plans to deliver on operational commitments and customer expectations.Providing regular reports and analysis on the productivity of ship, yard, equipment and resource utilization.
  • Contribute to the planning and analysis required to execute collective bargaining negotiations and labor reviews.
  • Ensure operations software is used to the fullest extent; e.g. TOS.
  • Ensure adequate resourcing to deliver operational requirements (absenteeism & leave plan management).
  • Manage and “own” the operations labor budget.
  • Review equipment requirements against inventory to ensure operational needs are met in advance of growth, maintenance schedules are supported and the profile is economically and operationally sustainable.
  • Previous experience in line management with a large customer focused operation, in stevedoring, transport or related field.
  • Previous P&L responsibility.
  • Experience in negotiating with employee representatives.
  • Experience in working in a Safety Management System environment.
  • Sound business acumen.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to identify, analyse and solve business, commercial and operational problems.
  • Advanced negotiating skills.
  • Sound understanding of financial and management accounting.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Tertiary qualifications in business, operational management, logistics or other relevant field or extensive relevant work experience.
  • Completion of an Operations Management Diploma highly regarded.
